Hardbrücke station is already one of the Swiss stations with the highest passenger frequencies. With the construction of the tram connection, it became necessary to increase capacity. The new roof in the form of cubes protects the new distribution level and connects the street level with the track level.
In order to optimally combine the technical requirements for lighting and its effect inside and outside, a supporting system, the so-called catwalk, was developed. It carries the functional direct light as well as an atmospheric indirect light. This gives the new Hardbrücke railway station as the fulcrum in Zurich West a unique long-distance effect even at night.
